Engines will include (at least in Europe) a 1.8 Liter with 170hp. And a 2.0 Liter diesel.

Plus, of course, the new 1,4 Liter Turbo that we’ll be getting over here too.
The interior starts looking a bit plasticky. I guess that’s to be expected in a car replacing the Coblat.
But still looking pretty nice.
We’ll see…

  1. What the Acura TSX should have/could have looked like. Nice design! Don’t like the large silver plastic piece on the dash. ONLY dislike!

  2. GM’s version of the Hyundai Elantra… I guess it is better than the Cobalt. Civic, Corolla and Mazda3 have nothing to worry about.

  3. In that last photo- GM is actually providing a cigarette lighter? I don’t care if it’s for Europe, it’s still stupid.

  4. the front looks quite aggressive…something i like. however, as soon as u step behind the “behind” of the vehicle…it gets all girly…wtf? turned me off.

  5. Civic should worry since it will cost more (same options) and not have class-leading ride dynamics. Not to mention the interior of the Honda Civic is very plasticky and tacky in the use of a co-digital display.

  6. Civic, Corolla may have nothing to worry about but it probably is just as good if not better car than these. Will keep the loyal GM buyer and they won’t be missing anything not buying an import.

  7. i still find it too bland in comparison with what is comming out from the other manufactures’ as 2010 models, but the interior is leaps and bounds ahead of the current cobalt.

  8. By the time this comes out the new Honda Civic will probably be coming out soon ! Then it will be back to drawing boards for GM, if they are still around lol

  9. I hope GM keeps the price of the Cruze reasonable. I had read somewhere that the Cruze would cost more than the Cobalt and even more than the Civic and Corolla.

  10. “Civic should worry since it will cost more (same options) and not have class-leading ride dynamics. Not to mention the interior of the Honda Civic is very plasticky and tacky in the use of a co-digital display.”

You must have missed the memo that this is going to cost just as much as a Civic.

You really think that this vehicles interior is going to be better than the Civic or Corolla? I think not.

  11. That is not plastic covering the dash, but rather leather or cloth depending on the material on the seats.

  12. Actually Soul Brother No. 7, i’d prefer if my automaker didn’t encourage me to do something that will ultimately kill me. A simple power point would’ve sufficed, you know like every other automaker provides instead.

Isn’t it time for your smoke break?

  13. There are higher-resolution photos where you can see that what looks like silver plastic is actually fabric. Looks like a pretty interesting dash covering.

  14. “You really think that this vehicles interior is going to be better than the Civic or Corolla?”

You think the Corolla’s interior worth a damn? If there was one car worthy of being called down-market junk and has the plastic dash to prove it, it is the Corolla.

The Civic interior still leads this segment. Toyota has faultered badly, considering that the present Corolla is just a rehashed version of the previous gen.

  15. This car is the new camaro or volt ! how many more pics are we gonna see of this car that wont come out for almost 2 more years ! yawn ! hell they havent even built the engine manufacturing facility yet (flint mi), and when they do, there gonna ship each and every single engine to lordstown 4.5 hours away or 270 miles seems stupid to me when moraine oh facility is closing and a hell of alot closer !

  16. Looks good. I’m not sure the Civic looks any less plasticky, but the Cruze sedan certainly looks better on the exterior. The Corolla is a putrid vehicle inside and out. I wouldn’t be surprised if this does extremely well for GM. It seems that they finally are starting to get it.

  17. I highly disagree that the current civic has a class leading interior. I sat in one recently and the seats were rock hard plastics cheap, cheap every where. Its too bad, because the exterior is amazing in all seriousness. My 04 Corolla is much more comfortable than the Civic.

  18. Javol, Kommandant Markus! Ve shall do everyzingk according to your moral code, ja?

I mean, God forbid anyone do anything that you deem inappropriate, eh?

  19. Oh look, Chevy’s new sedan has a “bangle butt”…

The front is nice, but if you had to look like a luxury car why not an A6 or another car with a classy rear? Bangle butt doesn’t looks good on BMWs and doesn’t look much better here. Still Cruze exists in a sea of hideous cars and (like Malibu) will be the most attractive car in segment IMHO.

I’m torn on the fabric treatments on the dash. On one hand they’ll make the Cruze feel upscale, on the other hand they’ll get filthy. I had a car with the entire door panel draped in cloth and while it looked and felt nice, it got dirty in a hurry.

  20. Is it some kind of new law that every new car and SUV produced cannot have a bodyside molding or ground effects? Enough with these Japanese plain, slab sided generic looking sedans already! Other than the grille this car could be any Asian or korean look alike appliance. Are todays designers so clueless on where to take American styling cues that they need to resort to copying all the boring foreign designs. This is such a dissapointment after such nice designs like the Malibu, Traverse and Enclave etc. On the other side of the coin the interior looks pretty upscale even if this is the top of the line model. It’s really looking like the opposite of the nineties when the exteriors looked good but the interiors sucked. Now it’s the interiors that are looking good at the expense of exterior styling.

  21. “Is it some kind of new law that every new car and SUV produced cannot have a bodyside molding or ground effects?”

Uh, yes. Congressed just passed this law. No cheezy body cladding anymore!

    Ah-men!

  22. “I highly disagree that the current civic has a class leading interior. I sat in one recently and the seats were rock hard plastics cheap, cheap every where. Its too bad, because the exterior is amazing in all seriousness. My 04 Corolla is much more comfortable than the Civic.”

Your Corolla is designed for elderly and boring people, that is why.

The Honda Civic is the benchmark in this class, whether you like it or not.

  23. Daewoo doesn’t exist anymore. Its a GM, know your facts. The interior is much more interesting than anything else in the segment. GM already sells a tonne of Cobalts so with the great design and fuel economy of the Cruze will definetly but GM on top in the small car market. The Corolla is horribly ugly and cheap. The Civic is wierd. The Cruze is very nice.

  24. “The interior looks plasticky” Well Vince actually all car interiors are made mostly of plastic. This includes $100,000 BMWs and Mercedes so you are correct in that respect.

  25. The corolla might be ugly and cheap. The civic may be weird, but they are the biggest sellers and the companys are profitable so they are doing something right.

  26. I don’t understand all the resentment. GM changes course and comes up with a good looking and very competitive new vehicle that will most likely be the fuel economy leader in its class (non hybrids), and before its even out everybody is bashing it. Its almost appears as if a lot of people here want it to fail. I’m sure you na sayers will all be eating your words when it does very well. All of GMs launches lately have been very good. 2007 and 2008 Car of the year awards, beating the all new Honda Accord. I expect the Cruze to be great.

  27. Its just a shame that GM had to be lazy and ignorant for years while the competition gave them a good dealing to. 15 Billion dollar losses per quarter. They should have started acting far more earlier when they were changing from making a profit to making a loss.

  28. I agree that GM missed the boat on the details and hybrids. They were mismanaged by executives that use to sell soap. Since Lutz came on board they really have a new direction and huge improvements. Remember it takes at least 3 yrs for a vehicle to be developed from sketch to dealer. Everything going forward is only great.
