2020 Hyundai Azera/Grandeur

Last Updated:

Hyundai gave up selling their large Azera sedan in the US a couple of years ago. When a new generation came out. They had only sold around 3000 of them in 2017. While Toyota was able to sell over 32 000 Avalons that same year. (Even more in 2018)
Plus, they are now pushing their Genesis luxury brand.
And they keep selling the more popular Kia Cadenza. (7 249 sold that same year)
The “new ” generation Azera is already getting ready for a mid-cycle refresh overseas.
And here are the first pictures.
Still a very nice car indeed.

Here is the current model. The one we never get. As you can see, this already looks 100 times better than the current weirdo Avalon.
The “facelift” pictured on the 2 top photos looks quite extensive. Since it looks like they have actually redesigned the rear side windows. On top of the usual front and rear ends.
Even the door panels seem like they could be new…

Quite an investment…

  1. Not sure how I feel about the altered shape of the rear quarter window. I think the shape of the pre-facelift version looks much more youthful.

  2. When I see that photo from behind, I can't help but think this is the stance and taillight lighting pattern Acura should have put into the TLX. It would be a modem interpretation of their fabled 90s era vehicles (that they keep foolishly trying to forget)

  3. I'm not so sure this is a facelift.. traditionally the Azera/Grandeur is all new about a year after the Sonata on which it is based, and the new one is about to hit showrooms. The roofline is really different, and the trunklid looks like they tried to incorporate the new Sonata styling elements in a more upright version. Not sure how successful they were.
