Toyota bZ-3: official teaser…
Last Updated:
It is now official, we will see the new Toyota electric sedan next month. It won’t be a total surprise since we’ve actually seen it before in early photos.
The BZ-3 will be Toyota’s second fully electric model, following the BZ4X released last year. Unlike the SUV, the upcoming sedan is so far a Chinese market model. And will be built in partnership with BYD. Which will supply the batteries and electric motors. So it’s not really a sedan version of the BZ4X sold around the world.
There’s also a rumor of a $28 000 starting price in China. Much lower than the base price of the Tesla Model 3 over there which is around $43 000.
I know it’s not in the cards, but I think an affordable electric Toyota sedan could actually find some buyers in North America.
Why not…
A company like Toyota really should consider having electric options, like a BEV and an optional gasoline range extender similar to the old Volt or the Honda Clarity. The biggest issue with those cars was always that they were small, ugly, not particularly roomy inside, and slow compared to a Tesla or even a Prius.
