GMC Canyon EV.

Another no-brainer for GM seems to be a GMC Canyon EV mid-sized pickup.
Since the Ultium platform can produce vehicles from the Chevrolet Equinox EV (and even smaller with the next-generation Bolt) the the gargantuan GMC Hummer EV, it seems a smaller pickup for GMC would make sense.
Besides the 2 Hummers, so far GMC has only released the new Sierra EV. And only the “Denali 1st Edition” trim, which starts at over $97,000. Of course, there will soon be cheaper models but nothing truly affordable.
For a while, there was a strong rumor, (and even a prototype) of a new upcoming Toyota EV pickup. One that looks a lot like what turned out to be the new Tacoma. But we haven’t heard anything about it for a few years. I had heard also about a mid-sized Nissan electric pickup as well. But who knows where Nissan is these days…
A smaller and more affordable Canyon EV pickup would put GMC ahead of everyone else. The platform is already there and I am actually pretty sure they are working on one. Just like everyone else, it seems GM is a bit scared of having too many EVs on the market right now. However, just like Hyundai and Kia, they are courageously pushing ahead and will be in the lead once EV sales really pick up.
Their Cadillac Lyriq is already the number 2 best seller for the whole brand behind the Escalade. And the Chevrolet Blazer EV and Equinox EV are off to a really good start. With mostly great reviews as well.
The mid-size pickup market is not as huge as the full-size one, but still a sizeable portion of the pie. Being the first to offer an EV version could be a great way to really put the GMC brand back on the map and a logical way to expand the brand.
That’s a great looking GMC Canyon. If their regular Canyon looked like that, and they saved all the grill and oversized fender cr@p for special versions, the Canyon would sell a lot more. I NEVER see these – and this is truck country. An EV version is ok too.
