Tesla CyberCab.
Last Updated:
This weird vehicle was caught inside Warner Brothers Studios in Burbank… And yet. it’s not a movie prop.
Instead, it is a heavily camouflaged prototype getting ready for the Tesla CyberCab unveiling that will, for some reason, take place in the famous studio on October 8. I guess Tesla might have thought it would be easier to keep the CyberCab secret in the WB studio since most people cannot even get inside, unless they work there, or get tickets to the “VIP Tour”. And yet, everyone working on the lot has a phone, with many probably owning Teslas and are aware of what will soon be going on.
We were supposed to see the new self-driving Tesla last month but Elon Musk canceled the whole thing at the last minute. He also announced the CyberCab right after rumors surfaced of the future compact Tesla model cancelation. Which all seems made up to calm down investors and give them a quick preview of what they’ve been working on. Ready or not.
And we know it will not be ready for full self-driving since Tesla is just not there yet. At all.
It was mentioned the car would be available to fleets but also individuals. But again, anything Musk will say about the car is basically BS since the technology is not ready. It will probably be many years before we get to actually see one. If ever.
Just remember the CyberTruck started production 4 years after we saw the concept. We saw the 2nd generation Tesla roadster prototype in late 2017. Musk claimed production would start in 2020. Then late 2021 or 2022. The target later became 2023. Now he claims a production version will be unveiled late this year with deliveries starting early next year. He also said the car would be able to fly…
You can see a few black and white photos of what we’ve seen of the Tesla Self driving model so far. (Plus a previously posted illustration)..Which all point to a 2 seater model with a large cargo area under a rear hatchback.
The prototype above under the yellow camouflage does show, again, a 2 seater with a bit rear cargo area. However, it is really impossible to really see what’s going on there.
The CyberCab was supposed to share its new platform with the upcoming smaller and cheaper Tesla model. It seems Reuters was right and we might never see the smaller Tesla. That means a lot of imvestemnt on an all-new platform for a self driving car that might or might not ever see production, since it depends of future tech.
Something that few people could be interested in actually purchasing.
All this while a smaller and more affordable Tesla could have been a instant best seller.
Way to go Elon…
First, a cab should have four doors and room for luggage because a lot of cabs run airport service – not just drunk 20yo’s home from the bar. Second, just wait until one of them kills its occupants or locks them in and won’t allow them to leave. That is, if we ever see this. Thinking on the kind of failwagon Musk has become, this is really just another waiting for Godot moment.
@cx. but yet you have no problem getting into a waymo.
