2026 Volvo XC50.

Apparently, Volvo is working on a brand new crossover model called the XC50. The illustration above shows what this new Hybrid SUV could look like.
The new Volvo XC50 would be based on the Lynk and Co 08. A PHEV crossover from another Geely brand. I guess it would be a quick way to expand Volvo‘s SUV portfolio in China.
It is unclear if the Volvo will be getting its own design or not. It could just be a Lynk and Co with a Volvo face. Which is what they did with the new Volvo EM90 Minivan. Which is basically a Zeekr 009 Minivan with a Volvo face. As Geely seems more and more like 1970s GM.
The Lynk & Co 08 came out in 2023. It is a PHEV using a small 1.5 Liter Turbo engine with one or two electric motors. For FWD or AWD applications. It is rated at an amazing 150 miles of EV range with the largest battery available. (39.6 kWh) . Which could still be above 80 miles EPA. And still an amazing number for a PHEV.
That powertrain could really give Volvo something quite special. As they are now looking for a few alternative to their upcoming full EV lineup. At least for a few years. This would be something that could also be very popular in North America and Europe.
The Lynk and Co 08 is not a small SUV and it is about 5 inches longer than the Volvo XC60. While rumors still mention the name “XC50” for the new model, which means it could be positioned bellow the current XC60 in price.
Something that can actually drive over 80 miles in pure electric mode would basically be an EV for most people. The gas engine would rarely be used if the car is plugged in regularly.
So far this new XC50 is rumored to be produced in Gelly’s Taizhou plant next year. With a yearly production number of 50,000.
We’ll have to wait and see it production will eventually move to Europe or even the US for possible overseas sales. The EX30 has just moved production to Belgium for cars sold in Europe and North America.
So why not…
