Pontiac EV Sports Sedan.

That’s right. A non-existing model from a dead brand. Since Pontiac was put to pasture back in 2010. And yet…

A truly sportier car brand would still have a place at GM.

In a recent interview, Bob Lutz mentioned future plans for the brand right before it was killed. Among them was a true sports sedan based on GM’s Alpha platform that was already used for the Chevrolet Camaro and the Cadillac ATS. That new car was going to replace the Pontiac G6 sedan.

The G8 Concept sedan shown in the images above was probably that G6 Alpha-based RWD replacement. And it looks really interesting, especially with great Solstice vibes.

These days, a new Pontiac sedan would have to use GM’s Ultium platform like almost everything else. it would also be very easy to come up with performance models only for Pontiac. That same platform is used for various models from the Chevrolet Equinox EV to the GMC Hummer pickup and SUV.

A new Pontiac could concentrate on sports cars and wouldn’t have to sell tons of cars since so many parts could be shared. Everything except the design is already there. It could also help GM in China where new sporty sedans like the Xiaomi SU7 and many others.

Pontiac could finally be a separate brand. With no SUVs. Sporty sedans, coupe, and wagons. Which does sound crazy. However, I am sure there is some market for sleek-looking EVs that aren’t SUVs or super expensive German cars like the Taycan.

Why not…

  1. great looking prototype. Pontiac did the huge kidney grills earlier and better than BMW
I love the rear design of this car, it also looks like it’s a hatchback!

  2. “Nobody wants to buy cars from this segment anymore.”
“Let’s resurrect a dead brand dedicated to them as a separate entity!”
“Brilliant product planning, why didn’t I think of that…”
