Audi E.

Last Updated:

Audi just unveiled the Concept E in China a few weeks ago and we already have spy shots of the production version. Showing a car that looks 99% similar to the “concept”. Which was actually just a close preview of the actual car. Just like the Dodge Charger concept was.

That’s actually great news since the concept looked really good. The bad news is we’ll never see it. Unless some of us move to China. The new model is part of some weird new Sub-brand for the Chinese market only. Which is something that seems popular over there. Every brand seems to have many sub-brands for various models.

That new Chinese market-only brand will have the name “Audi” on the front end of the car, but no logo at all. That’s reserved for the “real” Audis.

I mean, there’s nothing preventing Audi from selling this in other countries with the classic Audi Logo on it if they wanted to. Who knows.

The concept was introduced with a large 100 kWh battery with a range of over 435 miles in the local Chinese test cycle. Not bad for a 764HP car.

I guess this is Audi trying very hard to build a Chinese car. Not only a car for China. It just looks like one of the many Chinese EVs we see every week. It does look quite nice, but without any Audi DNA, it ends up rather generic and could get lost in the shuffle over there. Especially if Audi starts charging an arm and a leg for it.

Audi is also hard at work on 2 other models for the new brand. While we will be getting the A6 e-tron and Q6 e-tron over here soon.

  1. I don’t know Vince, I think it still has Audi design references and could have easily been a model conceived for global consumption.
