Chevrolet Camaro EV.
Last Updated:
The current Chevrolet Camaro ended production about a year ago. The official word last year from GM was: ” Camaro is a passion product. It has developed a fan base across the world and has brought people into Chevrolet dealerships for generations. The sixth generation specifically represented athleticism and composure – exuding confidence on the road and dominance on the track.”
But also: “While we are not announcing an immediate successor today, rest assured, this is not the end of Camaro’s story.” Which lead to some pretty wild speculations and guesses. Like a 4 door sedan. Or even an SUV. Of course, an SUV…
Something that has been mentioned by Mark Reuss, was the possibility of an EV. Which does make sense since GM is fully on board with their EV transition. He had also mentioned something at the same price point as the Chevrolet Equinox EV. Which currently starts at the amazingly low price of $33,600.
It would also be a car that focuses on “fun rather than pure horsepower”. Which means it wouldn’t really compete against the new Dodge Charger EV with up to an insane 670HP available. The Charger is also a very large coupe. A new Camaro based on the same platform as the Equinox EV could be quite nimble and yes, fun.
Could EV bring 2 door coupes back? I am sure many are watching to see how the new Charger EV does in the marketplace. It will also be interesting to see how the new 2026 Prelude Hybrid does. However, that car has a very boring and almost dated interior mostly borrowed from the current Civic. Which could turn some potential buyers off.
What would be really interesting is an electric Mustang coupe and convertible. However, Ford seems to become very late with developing new EVs.
A nice looking affordable fun to drive coupe based on GM’s Ultium platform would be great. Let’s hope…
1) This is proportioned more like a modern Monte Carlo rather than a Camaro, and the audience for that car can be counted on two hands, so nobody will buy it.
2) Camaro audience won’t touch this with a ten foot pole, so nobody will buy it.
3) It’ll be ludicrously expensive, so nobody will buy it.
4) Profit?
The tech of the Corvette E-Ray or new Charger would be the formula for the Camaro has to follow in order to live on, but nobody buys this overpriced crap. The reason this class of cars ever gained popularity in the first place was affordability, not exclusivity. Turn that upside down and it’s gonna fail real hard.
No EV Camaro. Too expensive and people don’t want them. I am pro-environment, but I don’t believe that EVs actually environmentally-friendly, given the current amount of green energy that is produced. Putting a car on the grid currently, just expands burning coal and puts the grid in danger of failure.
Just eray, the camaro. Lower the displacement 5.3 or 4.8 with eray battery. Hybrid performance cars is where it’s at. Take the toyota sequoia powertrain and put in sports car
I believe this “jump all in with both feet” approach regarding EVs is premature. All American car manufacturers are missing the boat on two accounts. The EV craze is leaving little to no choice for those of us who crave ICE vehicles. There should be a choice between EVs and ICE vehicles. The second mistake is limiting vehicle choices to SUVs and trucks. There are those of us who need coupes and sedans. Thanks.
You got to be f****** kidding me
