Yes, this is a Buick. Yes, this is a minivan. And yes again, this is an EV.
The spy shots above show the full EV version of the Buick GL8 minivan. While the blue one is the recently introduced PHEV version. As you can see, the EV model will look almost exactly the same as the existing version. Probably with a redesigned EV grille.
Last April, Buick introduced a PHEV version of their popular GL8 minivan for the Chinese market. The GL8 first came out in 1999. While the current 4th generation was introduced just 2 years ago.
The new PHEV trim uses a 1.5 Liter Turbo with a total power of 392HP. GM has mentioned bringing PHEV powertrains to the US and you would think this particular one would be great in a number of their US models as well. I guess by the time they bring it over here EVs will have become even more popular and it could be just too late for PHEVs.
The new Buick EV minivan will not be alone in the Chinese landscape. Since it will also compete with the Volvo EM90. As well as other electric minivans from Zeekr, Xiaopeng, and many others.
Looks like an LDV or many other Chinese cars. What’s Buick about it?
