Compact RAM and next Dodge Durango

Last Updated:

The illustrations above show what a smaller mid-sized Ram pickup and a next-generation Dodge Durango could look like. And they are both on their way.

Stellantis has just confirmed through a memo to its employees that both modes are coming. And both will be built in the US. While the all-new smaller RAM pickup will be built in Illinois, the next Durango will be built in Detroit.

The new truck will follow what Stelantis called their “multi-energy strategy”. Which means it will be available as an EV, but also as a PHEV and regular old-fashioned ICE powertrain.

The new Durango will be based on the STLA larger platform like the new Dodge Charger. That probably means very similar powertrains, like an EV and ICE using the inline 6-cylinder engine.

A smaller Ram pickup is a no-brainer really. Since everyone else is offering a mid-sized pickup, I still think all these should just be called Dodge and not Ram, but that’s another story.

Just like a new Charger, a new Durango is long overdue. The new Charger looks fantastic in person and I really hope Dodge can come up with another great design for the new Durango. Sales of the current generation have been shrinking to just under 32,000 last year. Compared to the amazing number of over 216,000 for the Jeep Grand Cherokee. ( I actually had no idea it was that popular before I checked…)

No dates yet but the new pickup was mentioned as a possible 2027 mode. That means we could see something next year. As for the Durango, there were previous rumors of something for late 2025.

All good news so far…

  1. A Dodge Durango mid-sized body-on-frame SUV based on a Dakota mid-sized body-on-frame pickup would sell like hotcakes. It is mindblowing that they haven’t done this already.

  2. Dodge should make a true compact pickup, with great towing capacity – for towing a small trailer (construction) and recreational vehicles. Keep it reasonably small in size, with the half door rear access and decent bed length. The things however is Stellantis keeps talking but nothing shows up on lots.

  3. I just hope that they don’t downsize the Durango. There was also rumors that it would be either renamed “Stealth”, or that Stealth could be an entry built and sold alongside a Durango. Perhaps a Stealth could be the smaller 2-row and the Durango could be the larger 3-row setup. This is not unlike at Jeep division with the Grand Cherokee and Grand Cherokee L, but, the Dodges could be STLA-large based. The Jeep Wagoneer S is STLA large-based.

  4. I think a single door pick-up truck would be ideal for dodge to deliver….since nobody does. Not everyone wants a behemoth. Make it sporty. Would sell like hotcakes.

  5. Took em long enough to bring back the Dakota should of been built off the Durango body they could be matching Chebie n Ford n maybe keeping up with Toyota.

  6. Should be called a Dodge! Management has ruined the great Chrysler and Dodge badges and appear to be trying their best to ruin the Dodge (Ram) and the Jeep Wrangler, Grand Cherokee and Wagoneer badges! Stelantis(sp) has been bad news for one of the greatest auto companies in the world!
