2027 Toyota Yaris

Last Updated:

The current generation Toyota Yaris went on sale in 2020. that means a new design might be on its way. the illustration above shows what it could look like.

Toyota was selling the Yaris in the US for a while but discontinued the car back in 2018. The current model was never sold over here. It was canceled in Canada a year later. To be replaced with a rebadged Mazda 2 model, sold under the Toyota Yaris name. For some odd reason. A sedan version of that weirdo car was also sold in the US for a while. The whole “Yaris thing” was canceled in the US in 2020.

That means that of course, we never saw the current model over here. Or its larger cousin, the little Yaris Cross Crossover, which came out in 2023.

Toyota isn’t in the market of selling small cars in the US. That will probably never change and the smallest Toyota model we’ll have for a while will be the Corolla. Which could be new next year.

The Yaris’ best year in the US was 2008 with over 102,000 sold. Its worst was probably its last year with only 6400 sold in 2020. In that same year, almost 180,000 of them were sold in Europe. I can see why Toyota didn’t want to bother anymore.

There were rumors last year about a return of the good old Toyota Tercel to replace the Yaris. Which meant a retro design new Yaris generation sold under a new “retro” name. Which could still happen. It would also be a great idea for a cool small retro EV for Toyota to sell against the upcoming crop of small hatchback EVs in Europe. Like the VW ID.Every1, or the Renault Twingo. All these will be priced at around 20,000 Euros and Toyota could come up with their own cool retro design. it would be nice in the US too, and could even compete against eh upcoming new Chevrolet Bolt.

The illustration above doesn’t show such a retro design. Instead, predicting a super boring and invisible new hatchback.

Toyota can do much better and let’s hope they do…
