Chevrolet Corvette SUV.

Last Updated:

There has been rumors of a Chevrolet Corvette SUV for the past couple of years. This is probably a very tempting project for GM. As Chevrolet could charge quite a premium for a new SUV with the Corvette name.

Such an idea wouldn’t be that blasphemous anymore since the Porsche Cayenne, Aston Martin DBX and even the Bentley Bentayga are big sellers for their respective brands. A Chevrolet Corvette SUV would instantly be more popular than the classic coupe and convertible models. The blasphemous part would be an Ultium based Corvette EV.

I am not sure GM has a current Ice platform to build an expensive AWD SUV with a V8. While they can pretty much use the Ultium platform for anything they want. From the next Chevy Bolt to the Hummer EV.

Just like the current C8 Corvette has been compared to much more expensive Italian sports cars, the new SUV could be considered a much cheaper Lamborghini Urus competitor. Although “much cheaper” won’t really mean affordable since it will probably reach $ 100,000 pretty quickly.

A raised up 4-door crossover body driving like a sports car is a big ticket item with a huge profit margin. Sure the Porsche 911 is the classic Porsche. However, last year, it sold around 10,200 units. Which is not as popular as the aging Cayenne. The Chevrolet Corvette is a much more popular car in the US with over 33,300 of them sold last year. Doubling that number for the new SUV could bring total Corvette sales (Coupe/Convertible and SUV) to about 100,000 units a year.

Something GM would have a very hard time to say no to.
