Saturn Sky.

Last Updated:

The Saturn Sky was the Pontiac Solstice‘s closely related cousin. Yet somehow, GM found the time and money to make the two cars look completely different, inside and out.

While there is probably no hope for a new car from Saturn. Ever. Why not dream a little and imagine what a cool new affordable new 2 2-seater convertible from GM could look like?

The Saturn Sky was produced from 2006 to 2009. There was a Sky concept in 2005, but, unlike the Pontiac Solstice concept, the production version of the Saturn looked completely different. And much better than the concept of the same name. Current tesla designed, Franz von Holzhausen did a great job designing both production models. Unlike the Solstice, the Sky was sold in Europe under GM’s Opel and Vauxhall brands as the Opel or Vauxhall Sky. And even in Korea as the Daewoo G2X.

The Pontiac Solstice was not a huge seller and the Saturn Sky was a bit less popular. With a total of 32,500 cars produced over 3 years. However, when combined with the Solstice numbers these were probably more popular than the Miata at the time.

Just like the Solstice, the eSky used many parts from other GM models to keep the price down. And it all worked. I have been pretty surprised by all the comments my previous Solstice posts got. It seems quite a few people own one and still enjoy them to this day.

My experience with a Solstice Turbo for a week was a wonderful one and I wish I could have driven the Saturn version.

As I mentioned before, I never thought I would see a new Hummern again, and yet. GMC now sells 2 Hummer trucks.

So who knows…
