Cadillac Eldorado.

Last Updated:

Cadillac has been hard at work on two new EV sedans. These will be replacing the aging CT4 and CT5. And, according to GM design director Brian Smith, we might see one of these “soon”…

What they are not working on, at least officially, is a new 2-door Eldorado coupe. So far, the Solei Concept from last year is the closest thing to a new Eldorado. Something that, if ever produced, would be even more expensive than the $340,000 Celestiq.

A “real” new Eldorado would have to be much, much less expensive, and could most likely be based on one of the 2 new Ultium-based sedans. Since they now cover pretty much every single SUV segment known to man with the Optiq, Lyriq, Vistiq, and Escalade IQ. They can’t really come up with something cheaper than the Optic as a luxury brand. The only new models they can come up with in the near future are sedans. Or maybe even a coupe.

So why not a cool, large, and old-fashioned coupe like an Eldorado?

Like many famous Cadillac models, the Eldorado started life in the 1950s. Back when American luxury cars were insanely large and heavy. But also the envy of car fans all around the world. These were days long before Mercedes or even BMW were popular, especially in the US. Also, these giant chariots were barely getting 10MPG.

The Eldorado started shrinking for its 10th generation in 1979, but still looked great and quite imposing. However, by 1986, the much smaller 11th generation just looked ridiculous. By then, it seems Cadillac in general was quite lost.

Cadillac was working on a new, beautiful coupe a few years ago, which ended up being a concept they only showed a few months ago. Like it, they were ashamed of it. Or maybe the opposite, it looked so good it made the CT5 sedan look even worse.

Let’s hope someone at GM pushes for a new coupe. A new Cadillac coupe…

  1. Cadillac missed managed the Cadillac Seville and Eldorado from at least 1986 or sooner…really horribly!!! All the guys should have been fired from Cadillac for running a great company into the ground!!!! Stupid idiotic people running Cadillac at the time what a group of incompetent management and designers……even the Cadillac DeVille was a joke of a car and stupid transmissions and inadequate horsepower!!!! Poor quality everywhere u looked!

  2. I totally agree the Cadillac cars of the 80’s were a complete joke!!! The motors the body designs were horrific!! It was no effort to take time with a beautiful design or strong horsepower, just junk they pieced together and threw out to the public hoping it would sale because of the Cadillac name, I lost complete interest in Cadillac brand until now, the CT -5 Blackwing is a monster of a car, but unfortunately for me, so is the price!!!

  4. I love the older electronic features of 2915-2917 Escalade.
My first Escalade was a 2008 Platinum ESV. Each replacement car got more expensive. Now, I can only
dream of owning a new car

  5. This would be Awesome if the Interior was as Delightful as the Exterior and came with a 640 hp with a hybrid system and all Wheel Drive and Four Wheel Steering

  6. Mercedes has been and continues to be a quality smart talented car manufacturer!!
They have their pulse on what sells what is popular what the public wants unlike Cadillac…
Cadillac was so strong as a company in the 50s 60s and 70s and not as much in the 80s….market share was dropping w each passing decade……80 Seville was the beginning of the downturn Cimmaron another example of a shit of a car…..
And here in 2025 they still don’t have their act together……an aimless company who continues to loose market share in my opinion
Its just is a shell of a former successful car manufacturer! I owned an 87 DeVille which was a joke I bought brand new from Bob Spreen in Downey and then I had a new 94 Fleetwood Brougham which I did like as a rear wheel drive
Wish Cadillac would get successful again because there would be a lot of consumers who would buy their cars!!!
