These are some of the illustrations posted on this site for the past year or two. Showing what the next-generation Toyota RAV4 could look like. And they are basically all wrong, of course.
While Subaru will be showing not one but two all-new models at the New York auto show this week, some Toyota fans are still apparently hoping for the new RAV4 to make an appearance, which I don’t think will happen. We haven’t even seen teasers yet, and the press day is in less than 2 days.
One of the new Subaru model will be the Trailseeker. Which will be Subaru’sversion of a new compact Toyota EV SUV. It looks like we won’t be seeing the Toyota model at the New York show either.
As for the new RAV4, expectations vary wildly. I personally think it will be introduced very soon. But some even mention early next year.
This new RAV4 is also rumored to be a new hybrid-only model in North America, with an updated PHEV model with a longer EV range as an option. That EV range is rumored to reach 75 miles in the Japanese test cycle. Which would still be above 55 miles EPA. And quite an upgrade from the current 42 miles.
Toyota has mentioned that all-new 1.5-liter and 2.0-liter engines would replace the current 2.5-liter engine in their future hybrid powertrains. It seems that a 75-mile EV range could only be the result of something more efficient than what the currently used. Maybe one of these new engines will be ready for the 2026 RAV4.
