New Slate Auto EVs.

Last Updated:

Like most humans on earth, I had never heard of the “Slate” brand of future EVs before this weekend. And yet, all of a sudden, pictures of not just one but 3 new models are popping up everywhere.

The models you see above are rumored to be coming out as soon as next year. And yes, we’ve heard that many times, from many other companies. Like Canoo, which just filed for bankruptcy. And even the cool Aptera EV. After many years, however, it is still not being produced.

The difference with Slate Auto is that it is rumored to be backed by Jeff Bezos. And that means tons of money potentially coming their way. And probably a way for besos to compete against Elon Musk.

The other rumor is the amazing price of $25,000. At least for the pickup model. And probably a bit more for the other body styles. Which is great news. And could fill the void left by the still-dead Tesla compact Musk canceled abruptly last year.

So far, I think these new EVs look great. With the right amount of “retro/trucky” look, reminiscent of many older Jeeps as well as the first Range Rover generation. Which is all good and could be pretty fantastic for the price.

Slate says they will have more info on the 24th. This could not only be good news for many, but also terrible news for Tesla. This and the upcoming Rivian R2 will make 2026 a very tough year for them.

And that’s not even mentioning their current problems.

  1. Great, more boxes. When someone produces something sleek and sporty for $25,000, I’ll definitely take notice.

  2. Something tells me that these are just Chinese trucks with an American marketing team and Bezos as their financial backer. It just seems as though if there was ANOTHER EV brand coming out, we all would have heard of them by now. And with so much Chinesium garbage sold on Amazon these days, clearly Bezos has no problem with picking a white-label Chinese EV and slapping on a new logo on the hood as selling it as his own.
