Farewell to the Toyota Bz4X, and welcome to the Toyota BZ.

This is a pretty ridiculous change of name if you ask me. This should have been called “RAV4 EV” from the start. “BZ’ isn’ that much better than”Bz4X”.

The new BZ is the US version of the updated Bz4X we saw launched in Europe a few weeks ago. So no surprises here. As you can see from the chart above, it is now available with 2 battery packs. With the smallest one being rated at 236 miles. Which is more than the previous AWD version, but a bit less than the old FWD model that was rated at 252 miles. As mentioned above, the new smaller battery is only available in the base FWD model, which will probably not be that popular, but will allow Toyota to claim a low base price. And probably super low lease deals.

The larger battery is really what you want, with a 314-mile range on the XLE model with its smaller wheels. And that will probably be more expensive than the current BZ4X.

As Toyota had mentioned before, the charging curve has also been improved. A new NACS plug is also standard. And the charging port has also been moved to the right of the car, which will also help at Tesla chargers. All these changes should make the new Toyota BZ a real contender and a huge improvement for road trips.

The BZ is also more powerful than the BZ4X. With 221 HP and 338 HP for the AWD trims. Vs. 201 HP and 214 HP for the old Bz4X.

The interior seems mostly new. Except maybe for the door panels. I actually kind of liked the previous interior design, and the new one seems a bit more generic.

The new Toyota BZ now seems like a much better choice than before. With plenty of improvements where it counts (However, one pedal driving seems to have been forgotten). This will make the Toyota EV much more popular than ever.
