Xiaomi YU7 crushing it.

Last Updated:

The all-new Xiaomi YU7 went on sale in China today and crushed everything in its way. Including Tesla.

With almost 300,000 orders in an hour, it has reached Xiaomi‘s total production capacity for 2026. The brand’s second plan will start production in just a few days, for a total of 300,000 units for both plans. A third plan is already being built, and will start production in 2027.

This is quite an amazing order number for Xiaomi. And even more popular than last year’s SU7 sedan. With such high numbers, the waiting list is getting longer. Up to 50 weeks for the “Pro” trim. And about 6 weeks less for other trims. Almost a year-long waiting list after just one day.

Last year, the SU7 sedan received 90,000 orders on its first day.

Not only does it look gorgeous, but the YU7 is actually cheaper than the Tesla Model Y in China. By around $1500. With a local starting price of $35,300. That base version is rated at 518 miles of range in the Chinese test cycle. Which could still be around 400 miles EPA.

All YU7 models use a new 800V architecture and support charging at up to 528kW. Which means 10-80% charging in 12 minutes. If such a fast charger is available.

This is obviously a car that would be very popular outside of China as well. Especially for less than a Model Y. In the US, the Tesla starts at $45,000 for the RWD version. That could mean a Xiomi SU7 starting price at around $43,000 or less over here.

However, as we know, no Chinese brand is selling cars in the US currently. With such an anti-Chinese political atmosphere, this will not change any time soon.

Ford’s CEO, Jim Farley, imported a Xiaomi SU7 sedan last year and was daily driving it in the US for 6 months. What he had to say about the car was pretty telling. He claims he “didn’t want to give it up”.

While we are getting some very nice EVs over here. We have nothing like the Xiaomi SUy and YU7. Nothing that good-looking with that much-advanced tech. its interior is also light years ahead of anything Tesla has been doing.

While American consumers are missing an opportunity to get great cars, the biggest loser could end up being Tesla. Sales of EVs and Hybrid have been up 40% in China since last year. While tesla sales were down around 8%.

And that’s before the YU7…

  1. I find it very odd that her tablet seems to have a volume dial and a bunch of physical buttons at the bottom but the one with no person in it has nothing. It’s just a regular screen.

  2. The volume dial and buttons are officially launched optional accessories. In addition, there are many other accessories available for installation, such as clock dials, rhythmic ambient lights, aromatherapy diffusers, etc.
