2027 Volvo XC90.

The current Volvo received a few updates just a few months ago. Not much really. And it is now getting hard to hide the fact that the big Volvo SUV is over 10 years old. Reviews have not been that nice either.

Volvo is now planning a brand new generation of the big XC90. As we already know, it will not be replaced by the ES90. The next-generation XC90 will be based on the all-new XC70. The XC70 was unveiled just a few weeks ago in China. And it is so far a Chinese market product. Although it has been rumored to be coming to Europe.

The XC70 is based on a Geely platform. It is using a standard PHEV powertrain with a claimed EV range of around 110 miles. Which seems quite amazing. Something like this would also attract quite a few buyers in North America.

Volvo is currently having some troubles with the huge tariffs imposed on their European-made cars. And it will be building the popular XC60 in the US next year. Depending on capacity, the plant could also build the new XC70 for the US. Due to these tariffs, Volvo has just canceled the S90 sedan and V90 wagon. Same with the V60. Even the European-built EX40 has been “temporarily halted”.

That is on top of software issues with the new EX90 EV SUV. And again, big tariffs on the all-new EX30.
