Chevrolet Bolt SUV.
Last Updated:

We all know an all-new Chevrolet Bolt generation is coming soon. As soon as “before the end of the year”, as a 2026 model. Production will start at the Fairfax plant in Kansas later this year. GM has also recently mentioned the next-generation Chevrolet Bolt would be: ” just one member of a family of Bolts, including an even lower cost option”. The illustration above shows what a compact Bolt SUV of this new family could look like.
He also mentioned the next Bolt might not be as cheap as the previous one, which started at under $29,000. That would still be fine since it will charge much faster and could even have a longer range thanks to the Ultium platform. The price is rumored to still be around $30,000. And the new Bolt will use LFP batteries, which are cheaper to produce.
While larger than the previous generation, the next Chevrolet Bolt will still be smaller than the Equinox EV. GM used to blame the small size of the car for poor early sales. I personally think it will morph into a crossover shape, like the illustration above. Which could make it a bit less original than the first generation. But probably even more popular.
The biggest change for GM will be making a profit from the next Bolt. Since they have just announced that they are now making money from their current EVs. Something Ford has yet to achieve.
With not one but a few new Chevrolet Bolt models, it seems GM will be getting even more ahead of Ford in the growing EV market. GM is now making money from all these cars, and they are on a roll with even more models coming from all their brands. Meanwhile, Ford has a 2nd generation Mach-E planned for late 2026 ( if that’s still in the cards). They’ve either canceled or delayed their 3-row EV SUVS. And we haven’t heard anything about these 2 cheaper models on the new platform yet.. Except we could see up to 8 models using that new low-cost platform.
We will probably see the new Bolt later this year. With the 2nd body style later.
it would be great if one of the Bolt family vehicles was a PHEV like the Volt was. It would certainly bring some options to many out there.
The vehicle they should make is a 2- or 3-seat Bolt pickup. It could be FWD. It would be cheaper than a normal Bolt to make, and it would sell like crazy. It would give Chevrolet something in the burgeoning smallish truck segment also.
I think at one point there was talk of making a vehicle such as this at GM.
