Ford Bronco Hybrid.

Ford will soon add a new member to the popular Bronco family. Not just a new Bronco Hybrid.

This new Bronco model will be introduced first in China. It seems to be positioned above the regular Bronco, at least in size. The new model is apparently 8 inches longer and about an inch wider. Its 116-inch wheelbase seems to be similar to the regular Bronco.

This new Ford Bronco will be available as a PHEV or pure EV. That means it will go directly against the upcoming Jeep Recon and all-new Scout Traveler. The PHEV Bronco will have a large ( for a PHEV) 43.7 kWh battery that will allow it to travel up to 137 miles on electric power alone. While the EV trim will come with a much larger 1-5.4 kWh battery, good for a 405-mile range. Keep in mind that these numbers are from the Chinese test cycle. Which is on average about 20% more optimistic than our EPA.

Still, an EV range of over 100 miles for a PHEV SUV would be fantastic.

The new Bronco model goes on sale in China at the end of this year, and there seems to be no way Ford would keep something like this away from the North American market. This would no doubt be marketed here as a more premium new model for the Bronco family. Earlier spy shots of the interior already showed a much more premium environment than any current Bronco model available.

Let’s hope we get to see that interview soon. And we hear more about possible US versions of that new Bronco model
