Mitsubishi Montero.

Mitsubishi has been testing a brand new SUV model over in Europe. It is rumored to be the next generation of the Montero.

As you can see, it looks a lot like a concept called “DST” Mitsubishi showed us last year.

The concept was shown in the Philippines and was supposed to preview a new 7 seater SUV for the local market. However, it looks like Mitsubishi might have decided to offer the new model in more markets, including Europe.

Mitsubishi revealed last year that the concept was based on a Unibody platform. Which is something you might not expect for a new Montero. But the last generation, sold in the US until 2006, had already switched to a unibody construction, starting in 1999. A new generation debuted in 2006 and was not sold in the US. Production ended in 2021.

A new Montero would, of course, bring back a very important model for Mitsubishi. One that would compete against the Toyota 4 Runner and Land Cruiser. As well as the Jeep Grand Cherokee and the new Honda Passport. If it ever makes it to the US, that is…

People seem to love that off-road look even if they only use their car to get the kids to school and pick up lemon chops from Trader Joe’s. A growing market indeed.

The spy shots above seem to show a design that looks even more outdoorsy than the concept. More upright and not as sleek. Which again is what so many people like these days.

The concept also had a really nice and modern interior.

No matter what it’ll end up looking like, it’s good to see a new Mitsubishi model once in a while…

  1. A new Mitsubishi model that’s actually a Mitsubishi. America needs this…

  2. This is going to be co-developed by Nissan similar to the outlander/rogue. It will use the frontier as a bof baseline to develop the xterra/montero. Could have a market here as bof is coming back strong! But it’s Mitsubishi so it’s probably doa.

  3. Awesome Mitsubishi all American need this…
