New Ford Bronco SUV.

Last Updated:

These photos from China obviously show a new Bronco-labeled Ford SUV, but which one?

At first, it would seem to be a next-generation Ford Bronco Sport. Except it does look quite larger than the current model. It also has an external spare wheel, something the recurrent model doesn’t have. As for being larger, it is still very possible a 2ng generation would dgrow in size to be roomier and offer more cargo space.

It almost seems large enough to be a next-generation “big” Bronco as well. Except for the doors with framed windows. Again, something the current model doesn’t have. But the Jeep Wrangler does, so that could also change with a new generation.

The interior, with its obvious Bronco logo on the steering wheel, seems more upscale than both current Bronco models. It has a much larger screen, and you can also see a bit of bright trim on the door armrest under the camouflage.

I personally think it could be an all-new 3rd Ford Bronco model. Which would make sense since Mr.Farley mentioned last year that most new Fords should fall under a few families. Like Bronco, Mustang, or Raptor. A new mid-sized member of the Bronco family would be logical.

The Chinese press reports that the new model could also be a PHEV. Again, something that makes sense. But there is also another possibility.

We know Ford is working on an all-new EV platform being developed at their California studio. We also know the first models based on that platform will be a new SUV and pickup. The new model above could very well the that new SUV. Logically being positioned between the Bronco Sport and Bronco.

The Bronco Sport currently starts at $31,000. Larger EV models could still be thousands above, and be reasonably priced for an EV.

This will be quite interesting…

  1. Reuters is reporting the following regarding your above statement:

Reuters exclusively reported that Ford ended an expensive effort to build a next-generation electrical architecture for its vehicles called FNV4, after delays and mounting expenses stymied its development. When asked about the report, Farley said the move is “a very significant save for capital efficiency.”

  2. The statement is about another platform they were working on. Some elements of this platform work will be integrated into the current lineup. What I am talking about is the new low-cost platform Ford referred to last year. Which is a totally different project and still on track.
