Audi E5.

This is not a concept. This is actually a new car from Audi, specifically targeted at the Chinese market.

It is also the first model of a whole new sub-brand called “AUDI”, spelled in capital letters. While the total lack of imagination in the name is almost sad, the car actually looks great. And much more modern than anything Audi offers here, or even in Europe.

This looks exactly like the very modern concept we saw last year.

It has an 800-volt architecture. RWD or AWD versions are available. With a range of up to 384 miles in the local test cycle.

But the most shocking feature of this new AUDI is the price, which starts at just $32,800 in China. While we are used to seeing chockingly cheap fancy EVs for the Chinese market, this price is the same as the base Tesla Model 3 for that market.

That would mean a new futuristic-looking Audi EV for around $42,000 in the US. Currently, the Q4 e-tron starts at around $50,000.

Of course, many “China only” new EVs don’t make it outside of their intended markets, but I think this would be quite an amazing new model for the regular Audi brand outside of China as well. Especially as a stunning entry model for their EV lineup.

I mean, just look at this thing…

  1. Not sure why every car maker feels the need to spell out their company name instead of using a long recognized logo. Otherwise, it kind of looks like what Audi needs – something more modern.

  2. Not sure a Chinese built vehicle from a German marque would be accepted in the U.S. I know that Buick and Lincoln sell Chinese made models here. But buying one from a classic German brand is kind of a stretch.

  3. @Anonymous_August 20, 2025 at 12:49 PM: What about Mexican made BMWs, Audis, Mercedes, etc?
Anyway, I think the new Jag XJ will look a lot like this to some extent.

  4. @August 21, 2025 at 6:56 AM Mexico is our neighbor and is in North America. Currently, Americans have more distaste (and suspicions) about China than they do for Mexico.

  5. China is full of sneaky communists who steal intellectual property. Mexico is full of hard-working people, big difference.
