New Lincoln sedan.

A new Lincoln Zephyr? Or even a new Versailles? Lincoln doesn’t sell any sedans in the US anymore. And there seems no concrete new EV or sedan plans for the future. However, next week, Ford will unvile their all-new lowcost EV platform. We have already been told this new platform will be able to support up to 8 new models. That could finally mena a new Lincoln EV.
While a new large sedan like the Continental or TownCar is probably not in the cards, at least anytime soon, Lincoln has been selling a modern sedan in China for a few years. The Lincoln Zephyr has been on sale since 2021. For some reason, it was renamed the Lincoln Z a few months later in 2022.
It’s not an exciting car, powered by Ford’s 2.0 Liter Turbo. The same one that seems to be in every new Ford product these days. It is also an FWD sedan based on Ford’s C2 platform. that was used again for so many models from the Ford Focus to the Lincon Nautilus.
The Lincoln Z isn’t anyone’s best effort, and the result is pretty pathetic sales numbers. Going down every year, to just 12,400 units in 2024. In a country where cars like the BYD Seagul sold over 56,000 units last November alone.
In this huge market where EVs are almost 30% of total sales, Lincoln needs something else than the Z. What they need is a very modern EV sedan to compete with cars BYD, Nio and so many other brands. Even GM has 3 Buick EVs for sale in China.
Lincoln needs to use the new Ford EV platform for a new sedan for the Chinese market. Or they will become 100% irrelevant over there.
A new Lincoln Z EV for China would also make a nice new Lincoln Versailles for the US. It would actually be quite fun to see these old-fashioned names on futuristic cars. A powerful super quiet Lincoln sedan would be the best way to get some of that good old “American Luxury” back. Competing with the eBMW i4, the upcoming Audi A-5 e-tron, and new EVs from Mercedes.
