2026 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ.

Toyota has finally revealed the all-new compact Land Cruiser FJ. The smallest member of the new Land Cruiser family, that could soon include a new 3-row EV as well.
We saw a small silhouette preview of the new FJ last year at the Land Cruiser unveiling. And this is it. I was really looking forward to this, and I am actually pretty disappointed. The new FJ just looks dorky and not nearly as good as the fantastic-looking Compact Cruiser EV concept from 2021. Which many thought was a preview of what Toyota unveiled today. Sure, some of the ideas from the Compact Cruiser are still here, especially in the rear design. But proportions are completely different, and this looks really cheap to me.
And you know it won’t be. The design won’t matter much to the few buyers who will actually take this off-road. And it might not matter to the others, who will get this to display a cool outdoorsy image to their neighbors. As it does look like an off-road vehicle.
The new FJ will be launched in a few months, by mid-2026. As you can see from the images above, it looks like 2 different front end designs will be available. Just like with the “regular” Land Cruiser in the US.
So far, the only powertrain available seems to be a larger 2.7-liter 4-cylinder engine with just 160Hp, mated to a 6-speed automatic. Something that doesn’t seem either very modern or efficient.
The design could actually look better in person. Hopefully, the retro bits are more obvious in the flesh.
The interior also looks pretty draped and cheap.
However, none of this will matter to us anyway since Toyota has no plans to sell the new Land Cruiser FJ in the US.

That interior looks AWFUL. Even worse than the terrible Tacoma interior. And it doesn’t need fancy or expensive interiors, just some design and color. Contrast this terrible interior to the great interior on the Ford Maverick – both cheap trucks, yet the Ford one actually looks cool. Good design and some colors don’t add cost.
If you thought the Jeep Renegade was comically ugly.. Toyota says “hold my beer”.
Toyota: buyer so stupid. we make all one color in cheap plastic, charge extra.
