Toyota Land Cruiser FJ.

The previoulsy posted patent imnage is supposedly showing the final production version of Toyota’s upcoming smaller Land Cruiser model. Called either land Crusier FJ, or Compact Cruiser. Or anything else that can think of…

The design is pretty much what we expected after seeing the Toyota Compact Cruiser concept back in 2021. (bottom image). And especially the teaser shown at the 2024 Land Cruiser reveal. (2nd image). Which showed upcoming models, including the smaller truck. From the patent image, it looks pretty cheap and expected. The proportions are rather weird not at all as nice as the concept. However, this won’t be a cheap truck. Since the new comp[act Toyota is expected to start at over $35,000 in the US. And apperently, the only engine available at launch would be a 2.7 Liter. Which is rumored for some overseas markets. While the US could still possible get a hybrid version.

The rumors of a smaller, more compact Land Cruiser model from Toyota started a few years ago. Something like this could end up being quite popular and give some competition to the Ford Bronco Sport. A new small Toyota SUV would probably come with a standard Hybrid powertrain, at least in the US and Europe. Toyota has plenty to choose from.

It could also be a bit smaller than the RAV4, but not necessarily cheaper, since Toyota seems to be charging quite a bit these days for their off-road vehicles. Even the super basic “cheapo” Tacoma pickup starts at over $31,000. Which is more than the base version of the RAV4.

We should see the final model later this year with a start of production in mid-2026.
