Ford finally officially told the world about their all-new “low cost” EV platform a few weeks ago. Even mentioning the very first product based on the new platform would be a compact pickup truck.
However, since the announcement, there have been a few comments pointing to a few interesting details. Ford CEO Jim Farley has already described the new vehicle as “Our first body style will be a pickup, but it’s really not a pickup. I would say it’s a new silhouette”. Very vague, cryptic indeed. A few weeks ago, Ford released a video about the new platform, with a small part showing people’s reaction to the new truck, without showing the actual thing they were looking at. The main reaction was one of surprise. People seemed to be very surprised by what they were seeing.
That and Mr.Farley’s quote point to something looking quite different from what most people expect. The illustration above shows what a compact pickup/sedan crossover could look like. Yes, it’s rather weird. But it also could make sense for many. Maybe something like this could have a folding rear window. And a folding rear seat for an even longer bed. Or something even more original.
I personally think the new EV will probably have some kind of rear hatchback/bed combo. But the sedan body type is an interesting idea.
The new car/truck is still rumored to start at under $30,000. Which could make it quite popular.
Let’s just hope it looks fun…
