VW is getting ready to unveil a few brand-new models for the Chinese market. At least one will be a new sedan.

Last June, VW unveiled new concepts based on the new CMP EV architecture. All of these are for the Chinese market. The sedan concept was called “ID.Aura”. However, as you can see from the photos above, the prototype caught driving around doesn’t truly look like the concept we saw a few months ago. Unless its camouflage is super clever.

We can clearly guess the shape of the tail lights on the prototype, even though the camouflage, and it looks very different from the concept.

The CMP platform can accommodate both EVs and PHEV models. The production version of the sedan is rumored to cost between the equivalent of $20,000 and $28,000 in China. Which is quite a bit cheaper than the Tesla Model 3, which starts at around $32,000 over there. As if the aging Model 3 needed yet another cheaper, newer model to compete with…

  1. Surprisingly pretty nice. Why don’t we get anything good in the states. We don’t deserve it anyway

  2. I’d like to see VW make a Golf/Jetta R version that had a hybrid drivetrain to make it faster off the line and more efficient, as well as update the current Jetta styling into this decade. Its kind of the perfect sized car (Jetta) and they have good seats. Larger than a Civic and smaller than the overgrown/oversoft Accord.
