Next-generation Lincoln Zephyr illustration.

The last time a Lincoln Zephyr was sold in the US was 2006. The Zephyr was a Lincoln version of the Ford Fusion and Mercury Milan. While a previous concept looked much more like a Mazda, the production model ended up just being a fancy Fusion.
The Zephyr name only lasted from 2005 to 2006. It was then replaced by “MKZ”. One of these terrible Lincoln names from a few years ago.
Originally, the Zephyr was produced from 1936 to 1942.
Currently, the brand doesn’t offer any sedans in the North American market. The last Continental was pretty much a flop, and Ford got cold feet and never replaced it. Lincoln is now only selling SUVs, big and small. However, they still offer a sedan in China. It was introduced in 2021 and went on sale in 2022. For some odd reason, it is now officially known as the Z, not Zephyr. And sales aren’t great, with just over 12,000 of them sold last year.
What Lincoln really needs is a new sedan that can compete against the deluge of new EVs in China. A never-ending onslaught of brand new models that are leaving the American brand in the dust. Ford’s new “low-cost” EV platform has been rumored to produce at least 8 new models.
Of course, the first one for the US is a pickup, but how a bout a new luxury sedan for China? One that looks more like a Lincoln than the current Z. Something a bit different that doesn’t try to look like another Chinese EV.
And maybe sell a few of them over here, too. Why not…
