Is a new Chevy Impala on its way?

According to Autoline Network, Chevrolet will soon get a brand new sedan model based on the next-generation Cadillac CT5. Which is rather strange for a few reasons. First, gas sedans aren’t the best sellers they used to be. And second, many assume the new CT5 will be closely related to the current model and could just end up looking like a heavy refresh. A new Chevrolet version would require an all-new design.

A V8 powertrain is also mentioned. That would probably mean a return of the good old Chevrolet Impala.

That could also be a strong return of the large classic V8 American sedan. The new 2026 Dodge Charger 4-door just went on sale, and it looks fantastic. The gas engine is a 3.0 Liter inline 6-cylinder Turbo. The Scat pack is available now for $59,000, while a less powerful R/T trim will be available later for $54,000. These new 6 cylinder Charger and the largest, most powerful sedans on the market for the price. And they even add the convenience of a large hatchback.

A new Chevrolet Impala could compete directly against the Dodge Charger. With a new CT5 being offered at a higher price. The weirdest bit of news is a possible return of a V8. While Stellantis is hard at work trying to squeeze a Hemi V8 into the new Charger, I’m not sure what GM could use. The only V8 option would be a detuned version of the one in the CT5 V, Minus the Supercharger.

Something like this would be a true follow-up to the 1993/1996 RWD Impala. However, the new car would probably be AWD.

Strange rumor, but if true, the return of the large American V8 sedan would be quite something. It’ll sell plenty of car magazines, and many reviewers will no doubt drool over these new big V8 sporty sedans. However, selling them to the masses will be another story…

  1. Fat or older guys that want this: be careful what you wish for, big and sporty is an oxymoron, it will be clumsy pricey cop cruisers with base models that fail.

There should not be a new CT5. Enthusiast Cadillac is repulsive, influencer hyped vanity play.

  2. I like how you keep trying to make the Malibu into some kind of aspirational model, when in reality the only people who buy them are the ones who can’t even afford a bicycle.
