2026 Chevrolet Bolt.
Last Updated:

The images above are the very first official teasers for the next-generation Chevrolet Bolt. Which, as we’ve previously seen, will not be a “new generation”. Instead, GM has chosen to modify the good old Chevrolet Bolt EUV and give it a new front and rear end. As well, of course, as an updated battery and powertrain. A NACS plug and probably a new interior. While reviving a dead car is a really weird choice, it has happened before.
I was recently watching a fantastic documentary about the history of AMC, and it is exactly what you did for a while in the early 60s or late 50s. They did receive a car that had been discounted 3 years prior, and it was a hit. ( I forgot which one…)
Visually, the “new” Chevrolet Bolt will be a strange mid-cycle refresh of a product introduced in 2021 and canceled in 2023. It will be a 5-year-old design with the usual redesigned front and rear ends. probably trying hard to make it look more like the Equinox EV.
Of course, it will use new batteries with a range of over 300 miles, and the charging system will be updated to be much faster. And yet. This i such a lazy move from GM. I mean, not even the wheels are the same (at least on the prototypes caught a few weeks ago).
GM estimates the new Bolt will finally make a profit. Rumored to be around $6000 per car. I guess not having a new design did save a bunch of money.
I am not really sure Bolt fans will be impressed with the rebirth of a 5-year-old car. Even if it comes with newer tech.
So far, the official word is: “The Chevy Bolt is back and better than ever. More this fall”
This seems weird, but if it makes the Bolt cheaper then it’s the right move. The buyers of that car will care about only the issues this addresses and not that it’s an updated car that “was on hiatus.”
You’re probably right. It seems most people don’t even know production actually stopped…
Making the car profitable – while still incorporating new battery and charging technology – meant that a complete redesign was not going to be in the cards. You can’t have it both ways, Vince.
Using the prior platform isn’t an issue as long as the battery tech, charging, and interiors/ infotainment is all updated. The only thing that concerns me is that the Bolt was always a bit too thin/too tight. If that hasn’t changed, they might have limited its appeal. When the Bolt first debuted, there weren’t cheap competitors. Now, there are.
Mary Berra will end up with even more money.
