Good looking new Buicks coming?

These images were just released by GM Design on Instagram. They’re showing what Buick is working on at their new Chinese design center. And it does look quite nice.

The first 3 images show a mid-sized, sleek wagon shape. Buick isn’t saying much, and the caption only reads: “exploration sketch by GM China Advence Design designer Yixuan Feng. Driving pleasure: a small, expressive premium Buick design study by GM China Advence design”.

That’s all pretty vague and really doesn’t mean anything. It actually sounds like PR BS translated from Chinese to English. But I really like the smaller Buick wagon idea.

The second car looks a bit more like an SUV/Crossover shape we’re used to. It’s really hard to see how large it is from the photos. But if it is actually pretty compact, it could very well be a Buick version of the 2027 Chevrolet Bolt. Which would be very nice to have here. Since the Bolt starts at around $29,000, there is plenty of room above for GM to offer a more premium version. (For some reason, the almost strange shape reminds me of a much softer, modern Buick Rendezvous.)

Even though these designs are pretty “generic/modern” by current standards, they seem pretty attractive. Buick really needs something besides SUVs over here. It would be really nice to get some modern stuff in its showrooms. Whether it’s designed in China or not.

  1. Ugh. Buick really needs something, but all these chinese designs look exactly the same. In other words, that aint it.

  2. The 2022 Chevy Bolt EUV was sold in China as a Buick, which is why it got an oddly nice interior here. Maybe this will come as part of the next generation of small EVs from GM.
