Is Mitsubishi working on a new Lancer Evolution?

It seems some people at Mitsubishi really want to see a next-generation of the legendary Lancer Evolution. Which might be nice, but pretty hard to do.
The Evolution was based on the Mitsubishi Lancer. A compact sedan that was, back in the day, competing against cars like the Honda Civic and the Toyota Corolla. Just like the Subaru WRX is based on the Impreza sedan. Without an Impreza in the lineup, it would be pretty hard for Subaru to offer a WRX.
Same thing with the Lancer Evolution. A hard thing to produce without a “regular” Lancer. Of course, it can be done. However, a new standalone Lancer Evolution model would cost a fortune to engineer and design. Something a small brand like Mitsubishi could never afford. Mitsubishi probably has what it takes to power a new Lancer EVO. But the rumor, of course, mentions some kind of electrification. Mostly a new PHEV system. However, I have not heard that they are working on any kind of new sedan. At least not anytime soon.
They could, of course, maybe use something from Nissan or Renault as a base, but who knows.
I personally think something like this is just wishful thinking from a few hardcore fans…
many uears ago, i test drove a lower end version of the Evolution called the lancer Ralliart. it had 237HP from a Turbo 2 liter engine and it was a blast to drive. Not an Evolution of course, but it was already lots of fun. And a comfortable car as well.
The Lancver Evolution died in 2016. While the regular lancer wnet on until 2020.
