New Renault Twingo e-Tech Electric.
Last Updated:

Yes, it took a little while for Renault to finally come up with the new electric Twingo, but the wait was worth it. The production car looks almost exactly the same as the e-Tech Concept from 2024. And the “prototype” that was shown a few months ago.
The new car also looks a lot like the original, first-generation Twingo that came out back in 1992. For some reason, the 2007 second generation deviated so much from the original design that it became a super generic small Euro hatchback with zero personality at all. It’s good to see the new EV taking so many design cues from the original design.
To keep costs down, the new Twingo will be assembled in Slovenia. While it is rumored to share its platform with the new Renault 5 EV and Renault 4, the Twingo is quite a bit smaller. And with a starting price of around $23,000, it will be even cheaper as well. Just imagine a fully electric car that well well-designed in the US starting at that price… That low price doesn’t even include local incentives.
We will know more about the new Twingo in the coming days, but it looks like the perfect model to compete with the current onslaught of small, inexpensive Chinese EVs invading European streets these days. In my last trip to Europe a few weeks ago, I was actually shocked to see that many Chinese cars around. It also seemed that all of a sudden, Chinese car dealers had become almost common. All this since the last time I was there, or just over a year.
Cute little thing!
