Just when you thought there couldn’t be a cooler new Renault than the new Renault 5, a new retro-futuristic Twingo is coming soon.
The Twingo (Original 1990’s model at the bottom), was a huge hit in Europe when it came out back in 1992. The first-generation Twingo was an instant iconic success. While the second one in 2007 just became a boring invisible small hatchback with zero personality.
The new concept above previews the 4th generation coming soon as an EV, just like the new Renault 5 and 4.
We saw a 1st concept in late 2023 called the Twingo Legend Concept car. And now we see an updated version of that concept called the Twingo E-tech prototype. Which is now probably very close to the production model due next year. And for the first time, we get a preview of the interior. Which seems quite fantastic for a small and cheap car.
By the time it comes out next year, the new Twingo EV will start at under $20,000. Which is quite amazing. The small Renault will share its platform with the recently introduced Renault 5 and Renault 4. Both of these also have a design inspired by their classic ancestors.
I smell a big hit in Europe and wherever this will be sold. A car that great looking for under $20,000 can only be a success. Of course, none of these 3 cool retro Renault EVs will ever make it to North America. Which is too bad.
I guess that makes 3 more interesting cars to rent next time we visit Europe…
cute. but really tiny. If this were maybe Civic sized, and produced by Mazda, it would be great.
In response to previous comment made, it’s supposed to be tiny. It’s a European city car and a breath of fresh air in a market also dominated by SUV/Crossovers. Ford has completely abandoned their sedans and hatchbacks there. Those wanting a larger Renault have the option of the great Megane EV and larger crossovers. Renault is on a roll lately, every EV has been great.
