Chevrolet could use a new Malibu… (Video)

Chevrolet killed the Malibu sedan about a year ago. In its last year, GM’s last affordable sedan in the US still sold 117,000 units. Which wasn’t bad for a car that was in its 9th year.

For a while, there were a few rumors about a next generation. I am sure Chevrolet was working on one for a few years and it would be really interesting to see what the prototypes looked like. That next-generation was supposed to use the same platform with a new design. Which would have been just fine.

There was also a rumor about a Hybrid or PHEV version for the next generation as well. GM has been selling a PHEV Equinox in China for a while now. And has been promising new PHEV model sin the US. And yet, nothing so far…

The last Malibu was a roomy, very affordable and comfortable car. And I am pretty sure a new design would have been quite popular. But no…

Enjoy the short video above, showing a few ideas of what a next-generation Chevrolet Malibu sedan could have looked like.

  1. Detroit’s decision to discontinue sedans in favor of higher profits from SUVs and Crossovers was a really stupid move. Not only are they handing over annual sales of nearly a million units to Honda, Toyota, Hyundai, Kia (etc.), they are making customers go away from their brands in favor of the Asian makes. And these buyers will never return – regardless of what Detroit may offer in the future.
