Is Kia working on a new EV sedan?

Kia has just released a very short teaser for what looks like a new concept car
It is obviously a fastback sedan, and car nerds around the globe are rejoicing at the possibility of a second-generation Kia Stinger GT coming soon as a new top-of-the-line EV for the brand. Something that will probably not happen.
I’m not sure how popular the Stinger was overseas, but here, it was pretty much a flop. It gathered many great reviews, but most car buyers were not interested. Its best year was 2016 with 16,800 units sold. That came all the way down to under 5500 in 2024. And yet, Kia is toying with the idea of a fancy EV sedan now.
It is interesting to note that Kia does not have an equivalent to the Hyundai Ioniq 6 sedan. A car that is not nearly as popular as the Ionoq5, but still managed to sell over 12,200 units last year. This is comparable to how popular the Stinger was for a few years. That new mystery model could become a Kia sister car to the Ioniq 6. However, the concept design is pretty “out there”. And doesn’t look at all like a preview of a production model.
Of course, Kia isn’t saying much, like ” A new future is on the horizon. Our vision takes shape soon”. Which is what I remember an old neighbor telling me once. It took me years to realize it meant nothing at all.
Hyundai will soon be unveiling a new second-generation EV platform with the launch of the new Genesis GV90. The concept above could be a way to show what Kia can do with the new platform. But again, it doesn’t really look like something we’ll see driving around anytime soon.

The illustration above shows what a new, larger EV7 from Kia could look like.
