2027 Hyundai Sonata on its way?

First, we will soon see a new Hyundai Elantra. However, there have been rumors about a new Sonata coming as well.

Which is quite confusing since the next generation Sonata sedan was beleived to have been canceled. Leaving the Elantra as the only Hyundai sedan available in the US.

We have seen many spy shots and illustrations of the upcoming new Hyundai Elantra. However, many of these show a longer sedan, which could actually be the new Sonata. It’s all very confusing and is actually giving me a headache.

The illustration above is supposed to show what the next Sonata could look like. Something less angular and more mainstream than the Elantra images we’ve seen recently.

if there is a new sonata sometimes next year, it will keep competing against the Toyota Camry, Honda Accord, and Nissan Altima in the US and Canada. The Camry is still pretty new, howver it is still just a heavy facelift version of the 2017 model. Hard to tell if a new one is already on its way. But a new Honda Accord probably is. About a year after the 2027 Civic, which we will see later this year.

Besides the front end, the illustration above shows a super boring design. One that would be a big step back from the current generation. Let’s hope Hyundai can come up with something much better…

  1. Vince, any chance that the new Elantra pictures show an “L” (long) version of the same vehicle for the Chinese-only market instead of a wholly new and larger car (Sonata)?

  2. The sedan in the illustration is much better looking and more interesting than either the Camry or Accord. The reports I have read on other auto websites are speculating that the next gen Sonata will be a retro inspired design influenced by N Vision 74 Concept (not sure how accurate these reports are, however).

I thought Nissan was removing the Altima from the U.S. market. Has that decision been reversed?
