2027 Hyundai Elantra Preview.

We have been seeing new images of the next-generation Hyundai Elantra almost every day for the past year. Or so it seems… This new image shows a new take on what we have seen for so many previous spy shots. And it’s not great…

The current generation Hyundai Elantra came out back in 2020. It received a “mid-cycle facelift” about 2 years ago. The new generation is rumored to be unviled later this year. It could actually be any day now.

Over the years, the Elantra has become and very modern-looking sedan. There is now a rumor from Korea about the next generation’s design being influenced by some past models. Which I really hope won’t happen. I really cannot think of a super great-looking Elantra from many generations ago. The Elantra has evolved into a very nice-looking modern sedan. It wasn’t that long ago.

The Elantra will be a very important car for Hyundai since, by that time, the Sonata could be gone. And will not be replaced, at least in the US. The new Elantra could even grow a little bit in order to replace both models. It will probably also end up being Hyundai’s last ICE sedan. Since they are one of the most aggressive EV brands in the world, they already offer an almost full portfolio of electric models. Hyundai is about to become the 2nd most popular EV brand in the US, behind Tesla.

The new car is also rumored to keep the current generation’s platform, which makes sense. It’s been a trend for the past couple of years for most manufacturers who have been spending most of their R&D money on EVs.

For 2027, the new Elantra could also be a hybrid-only model or even a PHEV. By then, there will also be a new Honda Civic and Toyota Corolla, and both of these could have a standard EV powertrain.

Let’s just hope it turns out better than the image above…

  1. Kia and Hyundai have a boat load to unveil for 2027. I actually like this render and the other one you posted more than the current model. This new elantra, the new Tuscon, a k5 refresh, a Santa Fe refresh, and a Sorento refresh are all slated for 2027 MY.

  2. This illustration isn’t remotely close to what the next gen Elantra will look like. It’s too curvy and flowing. The shapes and proportions of some of the details are also wrong. Of course, I haven’t seen it yet, but this illustration doesn’t match up to anything in all the spy shots of the car that are all over the internet. I think it may grow an inch or so in length and width, but the increases in dimensions won’t place the sedan in the midsize segment. At best, it will be an extremely roomy compact.

Hyundai has not confirmed whether the Sonata will or won’t continue in the U.S. market. I think there’s a good chance Hyundai will continue to offer it as a hybrid (and possibly even an EREV if the system in the updated Santa Fe catches on) here. There have been recent predictions that sedans may make somewhat of a comeback in the near future and I’m sure Hyundai would want to participate if that is the case. Rumors seems to suggest that the next gen Sonata will have a more angular appearance inspired by the N Vision 74 Concept. If Hyundai can execute the design properly, it should be one cool looking midsize sedan.

I also think the elimination of ICE vehicles will be slower than many industry analysts had initially predicted. The infrastructure is definitely not ready to support a large scale conversion to BEVs and they are not yet practical enough for a large portion of the population. I think hybrids and EREVs will carry the vehicle industry for quite some time into the future while plans are executed to make BEVs a more convenient (and hopefully affordable) option for everyone in the future.
