2029 Chevrolet Equinox EV Preview.

The Chevrolet Equinox EV came out just about 2 1/2 years ago, and there are already rumors about the second generation.
It will apparently the first vehicle based on GM’s new BEV-N platform. The next Equinox could come out in 2028 as a 2029 model. A new Blazer EV will follow, which is odd since the current Blazer EV came out before the Equinox EV. And the first Ultium GM model was the Cadillac Lyric. Which should really be the first one to be redesigned.
The Equinox EV is a popular model for GM with over 57,000 units sold last year alone. Q1 2026 sales were almost 10,000, even without the tax incentive. Chevrolet will probably not rock the boat with the redesign. The illustrations above show a gentle upgrade, not a revolution. The new platform will probably offer an even longer range and especially faster charging speed. It could even be a bit cheaper than the current $35,000 base price. With the Chevrolet Bolt ending production at the end of next year, a cheaper next-generation Equinox EV could basically replace it.
The next Equinox will probably not match the new Bolt $27,600 base price, but it won’t have to. Something a few $1000s bellow the current price would be enough. However, I still wonder what happened to that “Bolt family” various GM suits were mentioning until last year…
EVs are getting cheaper no matter what, and the next Equinox will no doubt be even more affordable than it is now.
At least. it’s good to hear about a next generation for the Equinox EV. Something we haven’t heard about the Mustang Mach-e. Until a couple of years ago, the Mexican factory was supposed to switch to a new generation this month! that obviously did not happen. And might never. Even with the very decent sale numbers. Ford is now betting all EVs on the new Universal Ev Platform. I’m sure something will end up replacing the Mach-e eventually. And that something will make money.
As for the next Equinox, it could also be a bit smaller than it is now, and maybe even roomier. At over 190 inches long, it is 10 inches longer than a Toyota RAV4. And less than 2 inches shorter than the more expensive Blazer EV. A smaller, roomier, more refined and cheaper Equinox EV will no doubt be even more popular than the current model…
