2028 Hyundai Tucson Preview.

These new images show that the next-generation redesigned Hyundai Tucson could look like. Unlike previous illustrations posted here, and most others around the web, these are actually more inspired by the all-new redesigned Elantra. Hyundai did a great job at hiding the new Elantra bulging fenders on the prototypes. The images above show a similar take on the next Tucson. maybe something the many spy shots we have seen of the new SUV didn’t catch. And I think it looks quite good. (but who am I to say. Really…)

The current generation Tucson is a major hit for Hyundai, with over 234,000 units sold last year alone. Even more than in 2024. The current design still looks really good and attractive. But in true Hyundai fashion, the next one will look nothing like it. Early indications suggested the next generation could adopt a more upright and rugged appearance. While that might align with current SUV trends, it could also be quite a risky move.

The current version of the Tucson launched in 2020 and received a facelift in late 2023 for the 2025 model year. Based on Hyundai’s typical product cycle, this points to an all-new model arriving soon as a 2027. It will probably be a 2027 model in Korea, while arriving over here a few months later just in time for the 2028 model year.

The next Tucson will probably offer similar powertrains as the current version. With a choice of Hybrid or even PHEV models. And of course, the “profit margin special”, the XRT trim, pictured in the 3rd image. The more off-load oriented version that lets you showcase your pretend adventurous lifestyle.

Either way, it will be a bit of a gamble for Hyundai. Let’s hope it works better than the current Santa Fe. Which was also quite a departure from the previous one and again, quite a gamble. A gamble that hasn’t match the brand’s expectation so far…
