The Ford Mustang Sedan Is Finally Happening.

After years, even decades, of rumors, it is now “almost” official. Ford will produce a 4 door version of the good old Mustang.

Many though the new sedan would be based on the new Universal EV platform Ford has been working on for the past few years. But apparently, it will go another direction. The new Mustang sedan will be much more traditional offering and will keep gas engines. Even if it is rumored to finally offer a Hybrid. 

Even the V8 version could be electrified with a hybrid powertrain. Just imagine that, a V8 with almost decent fuel economy… Still, I predict a tough sale with today’s gas prices. Which no matter what, will stay very high for a long time. I guess a 4 cylinder Ecoboost Hybrid could actually be popular. Especially with the rumored sub-$40,000 base price.

Which isn’t that cheap when compared to main stream sedans. But a lot more affordable than the Dodge Charger sedan which starts at over $50,000.

Some Ford dealers have recently seen the car. Or at least images of it, at a dealer meeting in Las Vegas. And they off course said it looked great. As they usually do in these Las Vegas closed door meetings. The lucky crowd was also shown a new SUV based on the Universal EV Platform. 

The car is said to go on sale “before the end of the decade”. Which is of course pretty vague. But it could mean a 2029 model year starting production in 2028. With an introduction sometime next year. 

I think a good looking 4 door Mustang has quite a potential. But it really should have its own design and not just be the current coupe with 2 additional doors. As the current Mustang looks OK, but not great. And low sale numbers are reflecting the disappointing redesign. 

A regular Hybrid seems pretty old fashion these days, and even more so in 2 or 3 years. I guess the Mustang was never meant to be a showcase for new technology…
