2018 Geely Emgrand GL
Last Updated:
This isn’t an all new car. (It has been out for a couple of years)
But it is getting a few revisions for the new year.
And somehow, it reminds my of the upcoming VW Jetta. As it looks to be about the same size. With similar proportions.
Engines are even similar to the current Jetta, with a 1.4 Liter Turbo and a larger 1.8 Liter option.
And just like the Jetta, it looks pretty conservative but not ugly…
I just wonder if the all new VW Jetta will look that much better.
The GL shows how far Chinese car makers have gone in a very short time.
Chinese cars don't count. please real news
I'd trust Geely reliability any day over VW simply because Geely has been learning from Volvo. Geely needs to come up with a plan to enter the North American markets. Something like this car coupled with 1 or 2 others (CUV, likely) offered at a good price thru something like ailing Mitsubishi dealers would give them a start to get a foothold.
So are Japanese and German cars.
It reminds me more of a Ford than a VW.
Looks like an exact copy of the previous U.S. Honda Accord model on the outside and in the inside – a German luxury sedan interior!
Would be great if Trump somehow got a law passed that required Chinese brands to have a domestic partner or face huge tariffs, just like U.S. Auto companies face in China. It won't happen but would be nice, since Chinese automakers have been stealing and learning from foreign companies for decades.

Sure. You trust that this car will be reliable, and maybe it will be. But one day you'll have a big tumor appear as a result of some chemical they used in the seat material. Or the Airbags will contain glass shards. I may trust a laptop or iPhone, but those are disposable after a couple years. I will never trust a Chinese car. The Chinese have earned their reputation.
