Buick Estate Minivan.

Last Updated:

Buick has been producing a Minivan called the GL8 for China starting back in 1999. The current 4th generation came out in 2022, and truly looks more modern than most minivans offered over here.

The GL8 is not coming to the US anytime soon. But it seems the VW ID-Buzz could give other brands the idea that cool looking minivans do have a place in North America. Not just something people would need, but something they would actually want.

Toyota is rumored to be working on a revival of the Previa, and maybe more cool vans are on their way. The next-generation Chrysler Pacifica will be based on the STLA EV platform and could look much more modern than the current one (Which is getting a facelift or redesign next year anyway).

A new Buick minivan based on the Ultium platform would be the right size for the US market. Something much more modern looking than the GL8, with some retro touches like exterior wood trim.

Buick was actually producing a wagon called the “Estate” starting in 1940. And again from 1970. Over the years, it was sold under many names. Including “Super Estate” and “Special Estate”.

I think simply “Estate” would be a nice name for a new EV Minivan from Buick.

A luxurious Buick Minivan would also give the brand something else than SUVs. While Cadillac is planning 2 new EV sedans to replace their current ICE models, it doesn’t seem that Buick will get anything like that. Even of they showed a really cool concept last year, with a wagon version as well. These might again be for the Chinese market.

  1. Buick needs something here other than its 10years-ago look-alike SUVs. But instead of EVs, they should be producing a hybrid lineup if they want to be seen as modern. That’s the exact opposite of Buicks reputation – still geriatric.

Maybe they could call an electric version the The Buick e-State

  2. I hope people within GM look at your euro Vince. Buick should get this and the dark blue wagon you recently presented.
