Stuff we don’t get: Chevrolet Cruze Hatchback
Last Updated:
Another puzzler. While Ford sells tons of Focus hatchbacks in the US, GM won’t sell us this.
I have to say, this is not my favorite hatchback design (This is no Mazda3).
But still. Why not?
Ford, Hyundai, Kia, Mazda and others all sell hatchbacks here.
Again, since the next one won’t make it to Europe, maybe we’ll get it then…
Remember when the J-cars first came out? Sedan, coupe, hatchback, and wagon. Even a convertible after a bit. Now all we get is four door sedans. Very sad…
Based strictly on the exterior design, I can't see this one selling well here in the US when there other much more attractive alternatives on the market. The Mazda3, Focus, and Forte 5-doors easily trump this rather awkward and bulbous looking hatchback from Chevy.
What I would really like to see is a Verano 5-door from Buick based on the much better looking foreign market Opel/Vauxhall Astra 5-door.
Brain dead bean counters at the wheel. While the Focus Coupe will be missed, Ford made a mistake dumping the hatch for the 2008-2011 model years. But c'mon, even the frumpy Cobalt had 2 body configurations. We eventually got the hatches in the form of the Astra, but those were DOA for how expensive they were.
I'd buy this. GM should definitely offer more options for the Cruze…
I love hatchbacks… even wagons. But this is more like hunchback than hatchback… they can keep it elsewhere.
Expensive, not impressive AND the Astra was tied to the terrible Saturn brand… which couldnt decide WHAT they were.
I would normally agree, but this is quite unattractive, with what looks to be terrible visibility out the back. They definitely need to bring a (hopefully better looking) hatch with the next generation, however.
Funnily we have the Cruze Hatchback here in Germany…but no one buys it. I have seen maybe two or three so far. Even the sedan is more common (but also not much). And I have to agree. Not a good hatchback design, I would prefer the sedan. This and the Mitsubishi Lancer are the only ones that I would prefer as a sedan from a design point of view.
