New Nissan Sedan.

Last Updated:

The new images above are from a new Nissan patent filling. They obviously show a new sedan design. But which one?

The new 2026 Nissan Sentra comes to mind. However, it doesn’t seem to really match the teaser image we saw a few weeks ago and the recent spy shots taken in the US.

The Altima will apparently be dead at the end of this year, leaving Nissan with nothing to compete against the Toyota Camry and Honda Accord. 2 sedans that are still very strong sellers in the US with 310,000 and 163,000 respectively. With 114,000 Altimas sold last year, it seems Nissan wasn’t doing so badly…

It’s hard to say from the silhouette teaser image if the next Sentra will be a heavy refresh or an all-new design. The cut of the front hood seems very similar to the current model. The redesigned front end could end up looking a bit more like the new 2025 Murano. Which is OK. But the rest of the car really doesn’t seem to bring anything new to the table.

We already know the next-generation Rogue will be Nissan’s for the US model offering the e-Power technology. I think this is something the new Sentra could use as well. Especially against the Honda Civic Hybrid.

What the patent images above show is the production version of the Nissan EVO Concept shown in China about a year ago. A good-looking sedan that was shown at the same time as the concept version of the N7. The next-generation Sentra could end up looking a bit like this. But so far the EVo isn’t scheduled to make it to North America.

Nissan is in a bad spot right now, and it desperately needs something to stand out. It looks like the new Sentra design might not really be that original at all, but the e-Power tech could save the day.

If the patent images are not of the next-generation Sentra, they could be of yet another new model for the Chinese market. Where the recently introduced larger Nissan N7 EV sedan is doing pretty well.

  1. Holy hips and overhangs, Batman! That’s not going to win any popularity contests.

  2. The patent illustrations are probably related to a Chinese market only sedan (where the body style still sells well, from what I understand).

It looks like Nissan may be abandoning its fake floating roof treatments for their next gen sedans (YES!). I was never a fan of this particular design element on sedans.

I agree with you about the Altima. Instead of giving up, you think Nissan would try to stay in the game with a truly competitive product. Maybe Nissan is going to make the next gen Sentra a bit bigger to straddle size classes to compensate for the loss of the Altima.

  3. e-Power is the best feature Nissan has, but it still wouldn’t be enough for me to buy one. I don’t think the brand is long for this world.
