GMC Terrain test drive coming up

Last Updated:

As some of you have guessed, I am driving a GMC Terrain this week.
So if you have any questions, go ahead…

  1. YUCK.

I see that someone else commented on the throttle delay already. Vince, the transmission hesitation (not throttle delay) will also DRIVE YOU INSANE.

GM programmed the transmission for MAXIMUM MPG, so it won't downshift until the throttle is at about 85%. Instead of gearing down one gear when it should have, it gears down by two or three gears and the engine revs like crazy. Very annoying.

It also has an overly soft, floaty ride that makes the vehicle boring to drive.

  2. Why did GM keep GMC?

To appease rural dealers who had a "Not Chevy" GM dealership and needed trucks to sell alongside the cars.

If anything GM should get rid of Chevy trucks and keep the GM brand for trucks.

  3. Why did GM keep GMC?

To keep Buick dealers from whining about not having any trucks and SUVs to sell.

Why does GM need 3 brands (Chevy, GMC and Cadillac) selling pretty much the same products? Work truck? Buy a Chevy, especially since there are more dealers. Luxury SUV? Buy a Cadillac, especially when GMC Denali versions cost almost as much as their Cadillac cousins. Maybe the reason we get stuck with a Cadillac "flagships" built on the FWD Epsilon platform and no new RWD sedans for Chevy or (especially) Buick is because building all these trucks and SUVs is dragging down GM's CAFE numbers. Typical GM thinking. I wonder how long before they're in the same sorry begging for a bailout shape they were in a few short years ago?

  4. Whats with the music on your video? That would be appropriate for a '73 Eldorado Biratz w/ widewalls and gold plated trim but this is a '11 Terrain!

The Terrain is what Honda tried (&failed) to do with the latest PILOT re-design. It looks better than a Honda or Toy and gets better emissions & MPG too! And it rides a LOT better. And HANDLES better. It fundimentally sets a whole new standard by which all other CUV's will be judged for years to come.

Some say the Durango is quieter and roomier and tows a lot more; but Durango is sized & priced to compete with Buick Enclave, not Terrain, Pilot or Highlander.

  5. YES!!! I hit the mark! The Terrain had less black color in the interior door handle than the Equinox!

Wow I gotta get into these car guessing games more often.

  6. building all these trucks and SUVs is dragging down GM's CAFE numbers

It's called "Supply & Demand"; aka "Give the people what they want to buy". A concept that vanishes a little more with each million the Government grows bigger by (aka "borrows")

Uhhh what in the hell are you talking about?

    1. The Terrain doesn't compete with the Pilot at all, they aren't even in the same class.

    2. The 2nd generation Pilot was released before the CONCEPT Terrain was released, so how did Honda copy them exactly? Sounds more like GM was trying to copy Honda if you go by the timeline.

    3. I would hope that a smaller CUV with a weak little four cylinder engine would get better gas mileage than the heavier and much LARGER Pilot that has three rows.

    4. It "fundamentally sets a standard"??? For what? It hasn't won a single comparison test, its sales are weak and it has a 70/30 mix for FLEET SALES!!!! 30% are going directly to rental companies, compare that to the CR-V which is literally less than 1%.

The power output of both engine options is pathetic, especially the GM LAF2.4 that has DIRECT INJECTION and barely has 2 more horsepower than the standard "old tech" K24 in the CR-V. That is pathetic.

    5. Handles better? Has a better ride? According to who? The handling number is a mute point seeing as how it is a smaller and lighter vehicle than the Pilot, but the Pilots outright numbers are still almost tied with the Equinox/Terrain.

They have a terrible ride as well, with constant body motions because the vehicle is under suspended.

Really, you have no idea of what you are talking about.

that is how you school someone! loolol ololololol

crv is also the best selling suv in america for over 5 years now.

  9. I have a legitimate question (not a boring internet rant :P)
We know the interior looks pretty good, but is the storage in the cabin enough for all the stuff families carry around?

  10. is the storage in the cabin enough for all the stuff families carry around?

No. If it were it would either be an Expedition, a Suburban, or a (long-wheelbase) minivan. CUV's (and most SUV's) are NEVER big enough!
