This is the real thing.
Sure, it does look like the Murano and the Rogue. But it still looks good.

Much better than the rather clumbsy and bloated looking Rogue.

Plus, I was very dissapointed when driving the Rogue for a whole week.
Noisy engine, and a horrible CVT. With a really bad handling.

  1. vinny , lighten up on the rogue. it is cute, well made, beautifully finished, and I bought one over a crv and rav4 for all those reasons and more. I have had 45,000 trouble free miles on it.

  2. Here's the deal. This looks nothing like the "Rogue" a rather clumsy looking, half-baked trashy riding clump of metal. Read Vince's review if you doubt what I and everyone else knows about cars.

    Now on to the new redesigned Tucson. First of all this reminds me more of the Hyundai Veracruz, its big brother. Those of you who know what the Veracruz looks like will see the family resemblance, those of you who do not, need to get clear on what vehicles Hyundai makes.

    The only portion of the vehicle I'm yet to warm to is that front grill. I'm hoping to see some better resolution pics soon at launch in another three more weeks.

  3. I must say I like the exterior so much better than the current Tucson so this will probably do well for Hyundai.

    I want to see the interior in person before I judge it, it's hard to have a good feel of materials just from a picture.

    I can see the resemblance to Nissan's crossovers, especially from the side view. I don't know why but the "high" tail lamps remind me of the Traverse (which reminds me of an FX) although there are a lot of differences. I hate to say it but it's impossible to make a vehicle that won't copy/emulate another that is out in the market, especially today when everyone wants to add crossover to their portfolio.

    I agree with Spurrned, lighten up on the Rogue. I compared the Rogue against the RAV4 and the CRV and decided on a Rogue also and to this day, I'll still pick the Rogue. I read your review Vince and while I disagreed with some of your comments, I thought your overall review was quite favorable so I'm not sure why you have to portray the Rogue so negatively now.

    Please remember that the "average" driver in the crossover segment drives their crossover in an ordinary fashion, not around a race track lapping other cars. The engine noise is acceptable and definitely more noticeable when it's cold or at higher revs (like the Mazda's 4 cylinder, or the Ford's 4 cylinder, etc …) but honestly, how long does one spend revving in the higher RPMs aside from merging on to a freeway or passing someone quickly? The CVT is horrible? Please … the CVT in the Rogue works just fine … I'll take no shift shock and hunting for gears over neck snapping shift exhilaration anytime since this is a crossover and not a sports car. The handling is fine, it's a bit on the firmer side but still comfortable in my book. You could criticize a Lexus for being too comfortable or a Bimmer for being too stiff but the people that buy them don't have an issue with it.

    I like your reviews because they are more representative of real-world driving experiences but I can't help but object to some of the review points because I feel you apply a "non" real-world benchmark to it and it negates the validity of your real-world reviews. Please consider who/how/why someone would drive it and consider its competition so you review them fairly.

    Vince, this thing is straight up FUGLY! FUG FUG FUG face. That aping maw. Those alien eye headlamps. The overstyled, over wrought side sculpting. The Murano-wannabe DLO. Barf, gag, gug, fug.

  6. The Tuson looks fat and lumpy and very over produced (very non-clean lines), a quality of companies that lack confidence and don't really have a clear vision of their product.

  7. The rear is very Hyundai like, as it is derivative of the current Veracruz.

    The sidelines are resembling very close those of the current Santa Fe. I own a Santa Fe, exactly in the same color as the one in these pictures and I am quite surprised to see how Hyundai downloaded the Santa Fe's sidelines into the nex generation Tucson.

    (By the way, to me, it looks more like the Santa Fe than to the Rogue. And the Rogue has an striking similarity to the Santa Fe, which by the way, was in the market two years before the Rogue came out. I am not suggesting who copied who. Probably they didn't copied each other It is just the modern style of the current SUVs)

    Regarding the front, I agree with one of the previous comments: I still have to see it in person or see better pictures to give an opinion.

    For the interior, knowing already (an enjoying) the Santa Fe's interior, and also after seeing the current Sonata, I am sure it will be just fine for this segment of the market.

    Today it was announced that Hyundai-Kia is the fourth largest car manufacturer in the world, having just surpassed Ford. As a current Hyundai owner I understand why there are millions of happy Hyundai customer around the world.

    When the time comes to replace my Santa Fe, I hope I can get an Equus or a loaded Genesis. I can't be more satisfied with the value proposition of Hyundai. For the price you pay, you get a lot of car with an awesome quality and long warranty.

    And no, I am not a Hyundai car salesman. Only a happy customer already in his third Hyundai.

  8. To everyone saying this looks like a Nissan, get glasses. It looks like a miniature version of the Hyundai Veracruz. Vince, do you think you could post a side profile pic of a Veracruz for comparisons sake to shut people up???

    To everyone saying that the Rogue isn't a terrible vehicle, and you bought one, I feel sorry for you. I've driven two Rogues (rentals) over 1000 miles and I hated every mile of it. The engine was unrefined, I hated the CVT, the seats were mushy lumps of unsupportive foam, it rode like crap and the interior was boring and made from cheap plastics.

    The CVT in the vehicle really is awful, it doesn't give any benefit over a conventional automatic. From all those people talking about "neck snapping shift exhileration" get real. I've driven many vehicles in my day and an automatic has never jerked me around. It is much better than the high RPM buzz from that awful Nissan 2.5 and the CVT combo. That engine has never gotten any praise.

    If you bought a Rogue over the segment leader (CR-V) then you made a mistake.

    45,000 miles is nothing.

    I had a coworker who had the CVT fail on their Murano out of warranty costing well over $6,000 with labor.

    I'll stick with a conventional and proven design.
